Defensive Efficiency Rating

Defensive Efficiency Rating:
By applying this formula we try and remove pace of play from the equation when comparing the defensive success of basketball (external link) teams. In other words, having two teams which play very different styles, the points per game allowed by Team A may always be lower than Team B's. But that doesn't mean Team A is necessarily a better defensive team than Teams B, which is why this 'defensive efficiency rating' was born.

The formula is simple:

Defensive Efficiency= Points scored / (100 possessions)

Spanish ~ Español - evaluación de la eficiencia defensiva
