Design:

A1 shoots but fouls B1:
a.- before the ball is in flight or
b.- after the ball was is in flight.

Conclusion:

Statistics Analysis Philosophy:
A player should not be charged for a shot from the field influenced by the illegal actions of himself or herself, or any teammates or opponents unless the shot results in a FGM.

Statistician Rule Fundamental:
A field goal made ( FGM ) is credited to a player any time a FGA by the player results in the goal being counted or results in an awarded score of two (or three) points except when the field goal is the result of a defensive player tipping the ball in the offensive basket .

Basketball (external link)Game Rules:
In the first case the ball was dead before the shot was in flight. In the second case we have a live ball situation.

eBA Basketball Statistics Tracking=
a.- Since the ball was dead before the shot was in flight, do not charge A1 with a FGA, but charge A1 with a foul made in the category 'bad fouls' and an unforced turnover in the category of offensive fouls.
Credit B1 with a received foul, a steal and the continuation play.

b.- Charge A1 with a FGA and a personal foul. Credit B1 with a received foul.

Commentary:
In the case A1 shoots but fouls B1 after the ball is in flight but before A1 has returned to the floor, charge A1 with a FGA and, if the shot is good, credit a FGM.
In the case A1 shoots but fouls B2 after the ball is in flight and A1 has returned to the floor, charge A1 with a FGA and, if the shot is successful, credit a FGM.

If the statistician is in doubt about whether the foul happened before or after the ball was in flight, the signals of the officials will bespeak the correct ruling for the eBA Basketball Statistical Registration:

In the 1st. Case= if the foul happened before the ball was in flight, it will be signed as a " team control foul ";
In the 2nd. Case= if the foul happened after the ball was in flight, the official will not point out team control.
