Five-second Rule

Five-second Rule:
1. A rule that closely-guarded player cannot hold the ball for more than five seconds without dribbling, passing or shooting.

2. A rule that a player has five seconds to inbound the ball on a throw-in. After five seconds, the ball is given to the other team.
